WHY SCIENCE ACADEMY?

Several studies have been conducted on the quality of Science education and research in India. These studies revealed that there is an increasing backwardness in acquiring knowledge of Science and Mathematics subjects and the subsequent application of this knowledge. It was also observed that fewer students are attracted to careers in Science or Mathematics, compared to other Professional subjects.

To address this glaring need, ILM Foundation took to establishing a Science Academy that is going to serve as a platform for students to learn and practice various science based concepts, generate ideas for application and do basic research on their ideas.

The academy will be equipped with advanced facilities and qualified professionals and scientists who will mentor students to pursue their ideas.

PROGRAMMES OF SCIENCE ACADEMY

Science Academy will undertake the execution of following programmes:

Science Shows: This programme will demonstrate hands-on activities that help children pursue the why factor of wonder, discovery, and exploration. Different multimedia tools will be employed to create these shows.

Meet the Scientist: This programme will have face-to-face interactions between students and scientists working in various research labs across India. The students will get more than a glimpse into how and what research is happening in India.

Graduate Research Programme: This programme will allow graduate and post-graduate students to do research projects by adopting the scientific method. Students will also be encouraged to present and publish papers in National and International Journals.

DO-LEARN-TEACH PROGRAM

An advanced certification programme, offered at 3 levels, for science teachers.

Level I – The philosophy of this level is ‘Rote to Realistic’. The intent is to facilitate teachers to create a classroom experience that is experiential, innovative, reflective, and close to being real!

Level II – The philosophy of this level is ‘Teacher to Scientist’. To think like a scientist is a different game altogether and that is exactly what we intend for our participants to learn in this level.

Level III – The philosophy of this level is ‘Pushing Boundaries’. The idea is to guide teachers to ideate and implement a path-breaking culture or tradition that will transform the current educational practices for the better.
